Pancreatic rest is also known as heterotropic, ectopic, or aberrant pancreatic tissue. Pancreatic rests are growths that are not normal and developed at birth. They look like a smooth hard yellow bump on the outside of the pancreas. Although they can be found in many places in the body, they are most commonly found in the stomach (60-70%) and upper small intestine (30-45%).

Pancreatic rest occurs in only about 2% of people, and is more common in males than females. Most people don’t have any signs of a problem and have no pain. If there is pain, it is usually in the stomach area. Most pancreatic rests are found during routine endoscopic or radiographic tests. In rare cases, they can show up with dypepsia, ectopic pancreatitis, upper gastrointestional bleeding, gastric blockage, and growths.

Treatment

Treatment could include observation, in some cases surgery, or the doctor may recommend some treatment to manage the problem.
