Removing certain foods from your diet while breastfeeding may decrease or prevent digestive problems or allergies in your baby.  Common symptoms suggestive of food intolerances or allergies include excessive crying, blood in stool, reflux, vomiting and green, mucus-like stools, although these don’t always mean food allergies.

What Foods to Remove?

  • Milk/dairy products
  • Eggs
  • Wheat
  • Soy
  • Nuts & tree nuts
  • Rice
  • Corn
  • Seafood & shellfish

Removing suspected foods from your diet by carefully reading food labels may help decrease/resolve your infant’s symptoms, but it may take 4-6 weeks.  It is important to be patient and keep a food diary.  You may need to see a registered dietician to help create a meal plan.
